Before You Start
Master of Data Science
Program code: UOA-MDS
Applying for an online program with the University of Adelaide is a quick and easy process. Check out the steps below to learn more or get started now by creating an account.
Step 1 – Check your eligibility
Entry requirements
To be eligible for the 100% online Master of Data Science (Applied) and the Graduate Diploma in Data Science (Applied) you will need to meet the following entry requirement:
1. A completed bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline with a minimum GPA of 4.5 (7.0 GPA scale).
It’s important to have a solid grasp of core mathematical concepts before undertaking a data science program as almost all of the techniques are underpinned by maths. If you didn’t complete your higher education in South Australia, refer to the table to see the equivalent programs per state.
What mathematics qualifications do I need?
While there is no requirement to have a mathematical background to enter the program, it is important to have a solid grasp of core mathematical concepts if you wish to move onto the Master of Data Science at a later stage. Students who would like the option to enrol in the Master of Data Science (Applied) and have not completed Mathematical Methods Level 2 (or equivalent) to Senior Secondary Certificate level are advised to complete Applied Data Science and Mathematics (MATHS 7203OL) in their first carousel, instead of Applied Data Science (DATA 7202OL). In this course you will be introduced to the role and application of data science in modern organisations and societies and the fundamental mathematical tools used by data scientists.
Your Enrolment Advisor will be able to advise on the best path for you depending on your background.
Step 2 - Create an account and apply
- Confirm the application close date of the next teaching period by checking the Important Dates page to avoid missing out.
- Create an account via the University of Adelaide Application Portal.
- Complete application form and upload supporting documents which include:
- valid photo ID (passport or driver's licence)

- transcripts from your complete bachelor's degree, diploma or certificate
- proof of completion of SACE Maths Methods Level 2 or equivalent (if applicable)
- change of name documents if applicable (e.g marriage certificate)

Don’t worry if you do not have all of the required documents yet. You can still create an account and return at a later date to complete your application.
Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll be hearing from our admissions team who will confirm the outcome of your application.
Step 3 - Enrol
If your application is successful, you will then need to enrol in preparation for the start of the teaching period. You’ll need to register for a student ID and activate your student email address. The EnrolMe System will then guide you through the process of enrolling into your first course.
